WORKS DEPARTMENT
Mandate
of the Department :
The Assam Public Works Department
was established in the year
1880. The embankment and drainage
organisation of the department
came into being in 1944. This
has undergone considerable
expansion since independence.
It was bifurcated into two
wings - Roads and Building
wings which continued to be
entrusted with the works of
roads and building. These
two wings were converted into
a full fledged independent
department in August 1977.
Functions, Roles and Responsiblities:
Is to develop the infrastructure
of transport & communication
of the State. P. W.D. discharges
its function of construction
and repair of roads, bridges,
culverts in the state including
construction and repair of
public buildings of the state.
