Mandate of the Department

(a) Functions, roles and responsibilities:

The Implementation of Assam Accord Department is a Nodal Department for implementation of the Assam Accord and to monitor the implementation of various clauses of the Assam Accord by different Departments of the State Government. It also deals with the All Assam Student Union and different Ministries of Government of India involved in the process of implementation of the Assam Accord.

Co-ordination between the State Government, Government of India and the All Assam Student Union in implementation of the Assam Accord is done through Tripartite Meetings, Bipartite Meetings and through the meetings of the Tripartite Sub-Committee set up by the Government of India under clause 6 and clause 7 of the Assam Accord.
There is also a monitoring Sub-Committee headed by the Principal Secretary, Implementation of Assam Accord Department for monitoring the implementation of the Assam Accord by different Departments.

(b) Acts and Rules

The Assam Public Service (Preferential Appointment) Rules, 1999 provides for preferential appointment to the affected candidates by the respective appointment authorities as and when they take action for appointment.
